John Fogerty’s latest, Grammy-nominated release, “Revival”, is easily the best work he’s done since his days in CCR. Because he such an extensive back catalogue, that means there’s no opening band, just 26 of Fogerty’s best songs, eight of which came from the aforementioned “Revival.”
“River is Waiting”, a moody, surreal soft rocker, was a surprise opener with only Fogerty appearing high above the stage on a lift with a huge picture of the “Revival” cover behind him. At he conclusion of the first song, Fogerty disappeared to the depths of the stage, the massive curtain opened and there stood the rest of the band ready to let it loose with an astounding cover of Little Richard’s “Good Golly Miss Molly”. Fogerty leapt over to center stage and simply rocked. “Bad Moon Rising” appeared next and brought back many a memory. From there, the hits were interspersed with new songs, including two gems “Long, Dark Night” and “I can’t Take it Anymore.”
“Born on the bayou”, “Have you Ever Seen the Rain”, “Down on the Corner”, “Up Around the Bend”, “Travelin’ Band”, and “Fortunate Son” are just a taste of the sold out audience experienced! I’ve always said that the best music came out of the late 60s and early to mid 70s, and judging by the boisterous applause many others feel the same way!
