After 30 plus years as a musical entity, Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart are still an awesome sight to behold. Their musical abilities and compositions have transcended decades and remain superior and popular. By the time you read this, Heart will have just released a new album “Red Velvet Car”, their 13th in all.
The sisters brought their Red Velvet Car 2010 tour to the casino to the delight of thousands of multigenerational fans. The set list really exposed Heart as the truly gifted musicians they are with both rockers and ballads lifted up throughout. They commenced with two red hot killers in “Cook with Fire” and “Heartless.” Then, surprisingly, they aired their biggest 80s hit in “Never.” Back to the 70s with the eternally groovy “Straight on” and the poignant “Dog and Butterfly.” Three songs from their forthcoming album were played: The title track, “Hey You” and the rocking “WTF.” The highlight for me was when the band broke into The Stones’ “Gimme Shelter” before transitioning into “Even it up.” Great stuff! Of course, “Magic Man”, “Crazy on You” and “Barracuda” closed the set.
Typically for Heart, they like to play a couple covers to close their shows and this time around it was Zeppelin’s “What is and what Should never be” and The Who’s “Love Reign O’er me”, with Ann’s voice was particularly powerful here. Ann, ever the introspective one, and Nancy the rock n roller continue to complement each other in an indelible and personal manner. A wonderfully magical evening!
