April, 1983

Those lovable metal Canucks! I’m so happy that they’ve been given a second chance to shine because they certainly deserve it! Back in 1983, the band had just released “Forged in Fire”; a plausible follow-up to “Metal on Metal”, but due to the very long shadow cast by the aforesaid “Metal on Metal”, “Forged in Fire” was destined to be a bit flat. Of course, there were unquestionable gems on the album and several were aired at Toads. The band hit the ground running with “March of the Crabs”, a killer instrumental that allowed for the band to loosen up a bit. Then we got “Winged Assassins”, “Forged in Fire”, “Motormount”, and “Butter Bust Jerky” from the new album. Other favorites included the seminal “Mothra”, “School Love” and “Bondage” where Lips played slide with a huge white dildo! Too bad he doesn’t do that anymore. “Jackhammer” and “666” killed as did the inevitable encore – “Metal on Metal” – recently aired on “The Simpsons”!
