Touring in support of their latest album, “American Capitalist”, Five Finger Death Punch took to the stage with an almighty roar and was greeted in a like manner from the sold out FFDP fanatics. It seemed as though mostly every individual in attendance sported some form of FFDP regalia.
The stage set-up was cool with a thematically capitalist approach. Several large digital screens continually flashed colorful corporate logos throughout the set and the back-line amps were covered with many chrome Ford fenders. Much of the set list was pulled from “War is the Answer” and to a lesser extent the new release, which is too bad because “American Capitalist” borders on great. Vocalist Ivan Moody is a diminutive fireball who is not only a fine singer, but also an excellent front man. His chrome mic stand was comprised of horrific silver images including a large detachable brass knuckle, bullets, and an ominous skeleton, all of which were attached to a disfigured spine. Of course, the songs went over well with highlights being “Hard to see”, “White Knuckles”, “Never Enough” and their cover of Bad Company’s “Bad Company”. Guitarist Jason Hook was awesome and funny – before their Bad Company cover, he noodled around with other famous riffs such as “Smoke on the Water”, “Crazy Train” and Pantera’s “Walk” before strumming that famous Paul Rodgers riff. Throughout, the band had a death-grip on the audience, especially as they collectively threw out hundreds of ‘FFDP dollar bills! Reminded me of Rick Nielson pelting his audiences with picks!
FFDP continues to demonstrate an exemplary work ethic, consummate showmanship, integrity, and an unparalleled hunger – not to say an arsenal of great songs to present. Simply fantastic!
